Sure I can. Every previous administration had the same option but decided child abuse was not a humane policy. They all decided to keep families together. Trump is the only one that chose to abuse children to show how tough he is. Obama tried imprisoning families and got sued and lost for it. Trump’s solution to that lawsuit was to abduct the children, deport the parents and wash his hands of any reunification attempt.

I'm not saying it's not a cluster friend but people act like Donald Trump came up with this policy all by himself because it serves a political purpose. Chuck Schumer openly said he would not work on a piece of legislation to fix the problem when the president could "fix it with a stroke of the pen". Trump did issue an executive order with a stroke of the pen, but it would not hold up in court thanks to existing law that the 9th circuit court ruled on during Obama's presidency. So when someone says they will not work with you to solve the problem the answer is not to just ignore the law and let everyone walk free if they just promise to go to their court date.

You didn't want to focus on the Dems when they were in power either. It was always Republicans this, Republicans that. And now you can't get off a policy that has since changed. Most Americans, many Democrats included, do want to see the border secure, so if Trump has them rounded up and sent back, great.
