This week the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection announced a delay of the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) regulations to require manufacturers to “produce” and sell zero-emission trucks.
Question: Why did they delay the regulation?
Answer: Because truck sales had dropped by 99 percent.
According to Gov. Healey 's rule, dealers were allowed to sell both types of trucks, but in order to sell a gas fueled-vehicle they first had to unload an EV. Hence, sales dropped to almost ZERO, because no one wanted an electric truck. That’s one way to kill emissions.
While everyone is in favor of a clean environment, policies need to be written for the real world. EV trucks can only run for about four hours and there are no charging stations for them. Maybe Gov. Healey should have done her homework on these basic facts before implementing a regulation written in fantasy land.
