Peak Fail 2.0 Has Made Headlines

Sunday would be residentials only and I seriously doubt that they would give you 10 hours worth of residentials and then turn around and give you a 14 hour day on Monday.

Working Sunday is meant to take the edge off of Monday. Are you saying that if you didn't work Sunday that you would have a 24 hour dispatch on Monday?

Perhaps it is you that needs to keep up.

1. My entire route is rural residential. A Sunday dispatch wont change anything.

2. The last time I worked on a Sunday (in 2013) I brought 200 missed stops back at 8:00 that night. Not exactly " taking the edge off."

3. 12 hours is a light day for me in December. 13 or 14 is the norm. I'm OK with that, but I would prefer not to work 14 hours on Christmas Eve if I can avoid it. By working on Sunday, I can ensure that I wont have 14 DOT hours left on Christmas Eve.

Try to keep up.

I'm sorry, as much as I respect what you have to offer here, I have to call BS on you bringing back 200 missed stops after having worked a 12 hour day.

Let's say you average 10 SPORH. 12 hours puts you at 120 stops. Are you seriously trying to tell us that they sent you out with 320 rural stops expecting you to deliver them all and stay within the HOS rules?

This occured on Sunday, December 22 of 2013.
About15 of us were called into work. Our building had thousands of missed packages piling up. I delivered a full car of stops, came back to the center at 5:00, and took another full car out. I brought approximately 200 stops from that car back at 8 to avoid going over. My manager wanted to call the entire center in on Sunday to clear up the backlog but Corporate only allowed her to run 15 routes. Hence the 200 I brought back. You are operating under the mistaken impression that decisions are being made locally, according to common sense. They are not. Atlanta makes the plan, local management merely facilitates it.

PAS'd out

This ain't rocket science
News flash it ain't 1986. Lots of things have changed.

Peak for me in a large city went from 300 pieces a day to 400 to 500 daily along with losing housecalls that ran 20ish stops pre-peak to 40 or more during peak which is about the same ratio with housecalls today.

Peak was grandma sending out packages back then. The internet changed that. Sadly, there are still many people that don't have a clue about online shopping.

Back then we delivered our packages we didn't dump hundreds of pieces at the post office. Believe or not prior to the internet people ordered packages from companies such as LL Bean, Lands End, JC Penny etc. in large quantities.

Operating profit from the fourth quarter a year ago was 1.1 billion. Which was relatively the same from a year earlier(2013). Volume was 8.1% percent and cyber Monday volume was up 12% from a year earlier. "Ups customers were delighted with the quality service we delivered during the holiday season," said David Abney chief executive officer on Jan.23rd 2015. He than went on to say. "However, financial results were below our expectations."

So it's not a decision to make a profit over service. It is a decision to increase profits over service in 2015.

My wife needed a gift this weekend for a party and paid extra for shipping. Amazon shipped via FedEx. It is now delayed 2 days. Amazon refunded the shipping costs automatically. I didn't even ask. All of us are having troubles handling the volume....not just us to be sure. Personally, in our area we seem to be on top of things. Warm, dry weather has really helped as well.

That's true. I watched the post office deliver on a Sunday across the street from my house. 3 hours later they come back and drop a package off at our house. Different driver. I talked to him for minute. He said they have so many packages just sitting there just waiting to be processed. He said they are 7 days behind on package volume that they had sups working all weekend.

We aren't in the worst position but the media will focus on ups first because of 2013

UPS reports mail delivery delays in Hawaii

HONOLULU -

Christmas is right around the corner and if you still need to ship gifts, you might want to get it done soon. A major carrier has already reported delays for its deliveries.

Some Hawaii customers are finding out that their shipments from UPS have been delayed up to a week longer than expected. UPS has hired 170 temporary employees in Hawaii for the holidays. It's even renting other companies' trucks to try to keep up with all of the mail, but some of those packages have fallen behind. The company says it's because some retailers didn't stick to their shipments.

Honestly this peak season hasn't been that bad compared to when I was seasonal years back. They were begging people to go get a dot and pull a truck off the line....
