I haven't read this entire thread, but something you may consider is getting an amateur radio license. It is a way of communicating long distance and it doesn't rely on a middle man. No cell towers, no internet, no big tech at all. Your signal goes directly from your antenna to the receiver's antenna. Also, ham radio guys can show you how to hook radios up to car batteries so you can keep broadcasting in power outage situations.
It's a dying hobby; most hams are old guys, but it really is a skill worth learning in case society collapses.
