There's an element of truth to that. Ground managers don't have any onroad employees, no vehicles to deal with, practically no service concerns, and don't have most all of their freight arriving at once in the morning and the issues that come with that.

The primary daily concerns for Ground managers are sort start times, flow rates, and sort down times.
Don’t forget finding enough butts to fill the seats

Expect Express to be denigrated and Ground to be made into a paradise former Express managers will be encouraged and deceived into investing in their own business. It’s so easy and profitable all you have to do is achieve your true potential. 300-500k for some broken down trucks and go out recruit some slave laborers, where’s Bacha.

And the corollary of bad courier can be a good manager??
Oh, absolutely. Two of the best managers I've ever crossed paths with were not good couriers. One just wasn't good as a courier and the other was a CSA who'd never delivered a package in her life. Anyone who thinks that, in order to be a good manager, you have to be really good at the tasks that a manager's employees perform - doesn't know what management and leadership are.
