Has anyone opted for a lump sum pension, reinvested it, and started receiving an annuity? What are the pros and cons of going this route?

And now a Wallation:
This may come across as crass, and my intentions are not to single anyone person out, however, I'm taken back by the cavalier attitude the younger generation seems to take in terms of their eventual retirement.
They seem to be unaware of this simple fact, one must prepare now for the future, saving much more than most, if you wish to retire early. The cost of early retirement is more than most prepare for due the harsh penalties associated.
