Both authors are spokesman for the special interest group that funds them. ENTRANS builds tankers and so that guy isn't going to say anything contrary to the interest of his handler.Same holds true for the spokesman for Post Carbon. The truth is probably buried someplace else.
Both?

It was a PRO and Con discussion with 37 contributors to the debate.

Your doltishness is epic!

What I was pointing to was who's bankrolling the two special interest groups. It doesn't matter how many contributors to the discussion you have. It's who's stroking the checks and what's in it for them.

Republicans never do the research beyond the talking points. As you astutely pointed out, consider the source or the entity...always. I find they seldom look at "facts" that are clearly stilted toward one side and an outcome that favors your industry/special interest.

Listen to the politicians and "experts" from coal states or oil interests. Interestingly, "data" supports continuing use of coal or oil. It's the same for any industry that has lobbyists and politicians in it's employment. Of course they're going to be puppets for that particular cause.

That's the biggest thing I took away from college...always consider the source for your research paper or else it will be handed back to you with an "friend" for failure to consider facts vs. fallacy and the spin of whomever authored your research bibliography.

The same applies to the real world and the special interests and "Merchants of Doubt" that are literally everywhere.

I listen to Rush for an hour or so a day about 3 days a week. Don't know that I've ever heard him use that phrase.

Oh, so Rush is against going after "entitlements"? I've never heard him waver very far from the main GOP talking points, and both McConnell and Ryan (when he was Speaker of the House) were very clear that the GOP had them in the crosshairs, along with unions and the ACA.

TTKU, Shillster.

And yet none of that has been taken away. Go figure.

I talked to a guy who used to be a courier in Manhattan. He said finding a gas station is hard, finding one that sells diesel is almost impossible.

And other random thought: With the hundreds of thousands of Americans that die each year from all sorts of things. We presume most if not all were working at some point. And paying into Social Security. And yet it being fully funded is some sort of issue. Example: John Smith works from 16 (first summer job) to his untimely death of 46. Never gets to collect SS. But paid his whole life. Seems like Government catches a break.

SS would be more than fully funded if Congress did not treat like it their personal piggy bank.

You have to work at least 40 quarters (10 years), not necessarily consecutive, to qualify for a full SS benefit.

You mean one of these breaks?:

Certain family members may be eligible to receive monthly benefits, including:
  • A widow or widower age 60 or older (age 50 or older if disabled);
  • A surviving divorced spouse, under certain circumstances;
  • A widow or widower at any age who is caring for the deceased’s child who is under age 16 or disabled and receiving benefits on their record;
  • An unmarried child of the deceased who is:
    • Younger than age 18 (or up to age 19 if he or she is a full-time student in an elementary or secondary school); or
    • Age 18 or older with a disability that began before age 22.

Interesting. Does that mean we can dismiss out of hand all claims made by advocates of progressive causes? I mean, if everyone who has an interest in an issue should be doubted because it's self-serving...

You've never heard much of him, period. He's long been the loudest and most vocal critic of the GOP.

Sounds like you've been keeping up with this. If you get a chance take a look at Social Security 2100. Make it onto the floor of Congress soon? Probably not but there is some agreement as to it becoming a basis for final legislation.

NOTHING is getting accomplished in D.C. now. Nothing but PISSY arguing back and forth over stuff that doesn't matter or is nothing but lies..I'm talking BOTH side are just as bad.

On the plus side, bad legislation is not being passed and I LOVE IT.

Tell me more about the 22.4's and what they make, shifts, promotion opportunities...

Start at 20.50/hr, 34.79/hr top rate after 4 years. Top rate works out to ~20 percent less pay than regular package car drivers (RPCD). Same bennies.

Not eligible for the 9.5 list (our marginal protection against excessive OT).

Could be forced to work inside the building, but haven't heard of that happening yet at my building or on brown cafe, and would be the exception that proves the rule.

Right now Tues-Sat schedule, but for the buildings that implement Sunday delivery after the new year, that will be staffed by 22.4s. However, FT seniority trumps any PTer's bid for a vacant FT job, so, eventually, you could become an RPCD.

In the UPS world, that might be a raw deal depending on how some look at it. In comparison to Express, I'm finding it somewhat tempting. T-Sat has several shifts I'm assuming?

If anything they should pay weekend drivers more, certainly not less. Never good news when two people do the exact same job and the second has to get reclassified to make the same wage as the first. I forgot to mention: per the national contract 22.4s have a 40 hr guarantee (5 consecutive 8hr days) that supersedes all regional and local supplements. I'm in the Central, the lowest 10 percent seniority RPCDs don't have that guarantee.

I don't blame you tho. You'll work longer and harder, but the pay and bennies are substantially better. Was chatting with an Express driver before peak; he was astonished to hear that I had ~85 stops and several pickups left at 4p haha.

There's really only one shift for FT drivers. Start times vary, but expect between 8-10a.

85 at 1600 hrs is nuts. But I get it. If you're going to break your arse, break it for good pay and benefits. So like anything else, this position isn't advertised for. You come in seasonal and maybe get bumped to a 22.4, start as handler, or lucky street hire?
