Been paying $20 and $21 an hour at many fast food restaurants for well over a year here already.
It’s also reduced the number of workers. some are scheduling, some with technology, and some it’s just impossible to find people even for $20.
i looked on glass door and its $16/hr locally in this big unaffordable city

poor people have worse standards of living in north america than poor ppl in some west EU countries

The Poorest 20% of Americans Are Richer on Average Than Most European Nations - Foundation for Economic Education (fee.org)

"A groundbreaking study by Just Facts has discovered that after accounting for all income, charity, and non-cash welfare benefits like subsidized housing and food stamps, the poorest 20 percent of Americans consume more goods and services than the national averages for all people in most affluent countries. This includes the majority of countries in the prestigious Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), including its European members. In other words, if the US “poor” were a nation, it would be one of the world’s richest."

why is the life expectancy so low then?

we sortve know we dont have it good as workers here because our unionization rate is so low. we also know by law we get very little paid vacation (ive never gotten more than 3 weeks paid and ive been a railway conductor, ecg tech, car rentals - all union jobs). if you are poor, college is hard to manage. what about cost of transportation? how much money and time does it take to travel here? we dont have a strong labor movement...where are the strikes?

theres alot of signs that point to us not having a strong labor movement.

Life expectancy a short because of the failed war, on drugs. Especially in the poor.
