I had a fun rookie season so far and got the feel of riding the Big Brown Beast during my first peak... Now back to hub waiting for my number to be called once again...

I hear you. Kind of a bummer too, by the end of peak I was finally comfortable with the route to the point where I could roll in 10 minutes before start, throw my bag in the truck and realize in the end getting there 30-45min early to try and go through a bricked out truck didn't really matter.

FL4 stuff would be mixed in FL3, PKG 3/4 for your first stop off the 1000 shelf would be in the middle of the car on the floor under 30 pieces of bulk....When you ask for your NDA put aside, you find 75 pieces of Air savers/NDA's just thrown in on top of everything lol

One stop at a time :)

After week one, I can honestly say I enjoyed it though.

I worked a half day yesterday but I'm expecting to be back to doing some construction work until things pick up this spring. A Lot of retirements coming in the next year or two at my center.

Did you do splits or did they set you up with something cushy?

I would say cushy that route i was doing was gravy. It was some bid route that a senior driver had been doing 10 years and they let me do it for peak

Yep, back to the middle of the night exercise program. The FT bid sheets will go up, come down, "Maybe next year." Repeat ?X and you'll be good to go.

Best part about going FT for me was being able to sleep like a normal human being again. Seasonal driving was always a nice break for that.

Unless it's different where you are, being an RTD makes no difference in who will get a package car bid. It will be bid to the entire building and someone with more seniority who isn't an RTD will win the bid before you. There is a good chance they will wash out and then it will be bid again. Just be patient!

Sounds like you got it under control during peak. I hope you realize life outside of peak is a lot different. Routes are more spread out, lots of going out blind if you want to work, that kind of fun stuff. Ultimately, the job is the same just need to know a lot more areas. Personally, I always thought peaks were easy.... Especially if you were fortunate enough to get a decent helper.

Put yourself out there! Ask if they ever need any air exception help. One guy on preload goes out after he's done to deliver EAM's and what not.
I do a PM air exception in place of my twilight shift which is nice.
