KARACHI: A man shot his mother dead allegedly over honour at their house in Shershah police precincts on Tuesday.
According to SHO Fida Hussain, Haleema Basheer, 40, lived in a house in lane No 13 on Muhammadi Road, and was killed by her son Muneer.
SP Naeem Sheikh said the woman had left the house for a few days thrice in the past, and Muneer had been scoffed at by the neighbours because of that.
However, when his mother returned home after leaving the house for the fourth time, he shot her dead, the SP added.

Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the
airports:
All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not
X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or
in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.
This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be none of this crap about
racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials.
This is so simple that it's brilliant. I can see it now: you're in the
airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an
announcement comes over the PA system "Attention standby passengers we now
have a seat available on flight number..."

(The Independent)- Women in Taliban-held areas of Afghanistan say they are once again being threatened, attacked and forced out of jobs and education as fears rise that their rights will be sacrificed as part of any deal with insurgents to end the war in Afghanistan.
Women have reported attacks and received letters warning of violence if they continue to work or even contact radio stations to request songs.
One female teacher at a girls’ school in a southern Afghan province received a letter saying: “We warn you to leave your job as a teacher as soon as possible otherwise we will cut off the heads of your children and will set fire to your daughter.”
Another woman, Jamila, was threatened in August 2009, in a letter bearing the Taliban’s insignia when she was working for a local electoral commission. It said: “You work in the election office together with the enemies of religion and infidels. You should leave your job otherwise we will cut your head off your body.”
Jamila ignored the letter, but days later her father was murdered. She left her job and moved

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP)— Gaza’s Hamas rulers are banning women from smoking water pipes in cafes, claiming it violates tradition and leads to divorce.
Plainclothes security officials handed out the ban order to Gaza City cafes over the weekend.
Police spokesman Ayman Batneiji said Sunday that officers are enforcing Gazan traditions. He said husbands often divorce women seen smoking in public but offered no evidence to support that claim.
The pipes are popular with both men and women in Gaza.
Since seizing control of Gaza in 2007, the Islamic Hamas has been trying to impose its strict interpretation of Islam on residents. Schoolgirls, for example, have been ordered to wear modest attire and male hair stylists are banned from women’s salons.

(Sapa)- A Jordanian man confessed to killing his 16-year-old niece to save his family’s “honour” after she was sexually assaulted, a judicial official said today.
The 43-year-old fired 30 machine-gun rounds in the direction of the girl yesterday, killing her instantly, at Deir Alla, west of the capital Amman, said the official who requested anonymity.
The man confessed to the murder, saying he did it to “cleanse the family honour” over suspicions of “bad behaviour” after the girl “lost her virginity a month ago in a sexual assault by a young man aged 17,” said the same source.
The girl’s family later married her off to a cousin “to conceal the facts,” the official added, stressing that the suspect in the sexual assault was being tried.

Seems like Republicans forgot about the 9/11 first responders health concerns who got sick, many have died, and some need constant healthcare, however we can thank the GOP for throwing these people under the bus and not prolonging their quality of life....If only democrats had more congressman like Anthony Wiener fighting for these first responders......Shame on you republicans, it's all about politics to your side....

It is not even possible to blame any Republican for this bill not passing. The Dimocrats have a very large majority and have passed many bills without one single Republican vote. This bill got twelve Republican votes. This Congressman must be mentally ill. I know you guys are partisan but trying to blame a Republican for this failure is beyond absurd. If they took all the extra garbage out of this bill it would easily pass. If they used normal rules it would easily pass. You guys passed a healthcare bill already why didn't you include this? Your false outrage now is pitiful, sad, and pathetic. If you want this passed demand from your Dimocratic representatives that they remove the garbage from the bill and pass it. Please stop trying to be a victim of a weak Republican minority all the time. This shows the complete lack of leadership coming from the Dimocrats in power. They would prefer to kill babies and provide healthcare to illegal immigrants than the people wounded in the attack on this Country.

I am not sure what you are talking about but in this bill the Dimocrats used a procedure called suspension to block Republicans from offering amendments. They did this even though they knew it would cause the bill to be voted down. You guys on the left should stop playing victim and take responsibility for your own actions. In this world the Dimocrats have a large majority in the House and and cannot be blocked from passing a bill and also cannot have any amendments they offer blocked if they vote as a group. The Republicans could not stop this or any bill, or any amendments to this or any other bill if their lives depended on it. The question is still out there if the Dimocrats feel this is so important then why did they not attach this to their "comprehensive" health care plan that they just passed?
