How will we know when the tariffs should end?

February 1, 2025

"President Trump signed executive orders Saturday, imposing 25% taxes on most imports from two of the country's biggest trading partners: Canada and Mexico. Goods from China will be charged a 10% tax.

The tariffs take effect on Tuesday.

Trump said in a social media post he's taking the action in an effort to address the illegal flow of drugs and immigrants across the United States' northern and southern borders.

Canadian crude oil will be subject to a lower, 10% tariff, which could mitigate the effect on U.S. gasoline prices. Midwestern oil refineries are heavily dependent on Canadian crude."

All this to stop drugs? Drugs we can’t even keep out of our prisons?

What a waste

If we legalized and regulated drugs, there would be no incentive to smuggle them across our borders

If and when the tariffs end, fo we think prices would come down? Prices didn’t come down after the post pandemic supply chain issues cleared up. What department is in charge of collecting the tariffs? Who’s in charge of that and will Elon decide to set up 24 hour work stations in those offices?

What department is in charge of collecting the tariffs?

Trump's got a brilliant plan for that. Not stupid at all.

"President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday announced plans to create a new agency called the External Revenue Service to collect tariffs and other revenues from foreign nations.

“We will begin charging those that make money off of us with Trade, and they will start paying,” Trump said Tuesday on his social media site, Truth Social. He compared his planned creation to the Internal Revenue Service, which is the nation’s domestic tax collector."

Not really, the black market undercuts the sky high government taxed stuff.
You’re absolutely right when taxes are put in place as a deterrent. You can see it happening in Australia, they’re taxing the crap out of cigarettes, and black market cigarettes are huge now

For a normal sales tax the vast vast majority of people would prefer to go to a safe and regulated dispenser versus a shady criminal

And not to mention, supply and demand will both be cut off greatly to the black market enterprises of America were to take over officially. Especially the cartels

I'm not interested in your change of subject.
Not a change of subject, it’s just like how you brought up eliminating income tax in response to talking about not taxing tips and overtime, it’s a broader discussion of the ideology

You’re just too afraid to give your opinions straightforward anymore because you’re afraid of contradicting yourself like you’ve done so many times already

Yes it is and I said I'm not interested in it.
You’re just too afraid to give your opinions
Yes that's me Harry, always timid about giving my opinions. Lol.

Your state enacted laws to enable your drug addiction, so I don't know what you're complaining about. You don't need to spread that degeneracy to states that have common sense.

Because federal law still has it illegal. It directly interferes with my second amendment rights.

You prefer the government telling you what to do. I prefer leaving it up to the individual
