You obviously have something missing in your life. You are in no way performing 12 step work.... you’re looking for interaction.

No, not in my experience.

I have found some people try to be different but for some reason they are powerless to change in some areas they truly want to.

Exactly.

Addicts "lose their temper" by indulging in a substance. One of many end results is regret. They are their own worst enemy, and they are unable to help themselves.

I have conflicting feelings regarding addicts: I feel sorry for these people. But then I revisit the misery addicts have caused in my life.
The solution that works the least worst for me is that I 'un-people' them. I simply regard addicts, drunks, and the mentally ill no differently than I would any rabid animal.
