I am curious why there is so much late air. 15 years ago it was fairly rare.....meet points now and then.We have late air every day. Their solution is get rid of the comit times instead of getting the air on time. You just can’t make this stuff up.
Yes. I was at the General Membership meeting prior to the start of negotiations. Our Executive board informed everyone there of this and the asked for a show of hands who wanted to work the weekends.
Not one person raised their hands, I would estimate the meeting was probably 85% Package Car Drivers.
Our Executive Board then promised that they were 100% committed to seeing that Full-Time Teamsters delivered the weekend packages. They were not interested in creating part-time weekend delivery jobs.
But they also recognized that current Full-Time package car drivers were clearly not interested in working weekends.
The primary issues for the drivers were excess overtime and harassment.
I informed all my guys about what transpired at the meeting. They were generally supportive of their plan.
IMO That is how the 22.4 jobs came about and that is why we felt the 22.4 was a win and not a concession.
IMO A concession would have been part-time weekend delivery jobs delivering the weekend work.
Sorry for writing a book.
What’s the issue with 22.4? Somebody aware me because I’ve heard complaints about it.
It’s got damn disgrace! They are basically second class package car drivers, paid less and no bidding rights add that lovely 4 year progression...no COLA or wage increases till after the progression..
Most of these 22.4’s are hired off the street so they start at 20.50 about half what a RPCD makes.
The general drift that we were getting from the previous administration was they were going to work half inside and then go on the road.. the Company found a loophole and started to hammer these new guys with extra road work...most of them never worked inside, strictly driving...
We got lied to..and voted the last contract down, ratified by the good old boys because they knew best...
I remember our Local telling us 22.4 would eliminate unwanted overtime. These drivers would start later and take work off those who needed help. We'd never have to worry about excessive OT again! The company abused this language big time

On a long list of lies. That was a lie
And that's exactly why I voted NoOn a long list of lies.
Rpcds don't recieve wage increases until after progression either and their progression starts at 21. So its not that much different in that regard. They are basically second class package car drivers, paid less and no bidding rights add that lovely 4 year progression...no COLA or wage increases till after the progression..

Just another concession. Like the two tier PT wage was just the beginning. Followed by Art 40 and the multi year progressive wage. The 22.4 was one of the biggest concessions ever to this company

The list goes on and on. Which is why I have no confidence in next years contract changing anything.Amongst many other concessions
