Gravy route
So UPS is dumping Billions into buying planes and buildings in a contract year.

When has this ever happened in the past?

Lets see...
1 Increase dividends.............2 Billion+
2 Buy planes and buildings....7 Billion
3 Prepay pension liability.......5 Billion
4 Buy back.......................... 8 Billion in stock.
5 Claim there is no more money left for the new contract.

Like a broken record.

Democrats only understand government dependency
You do realize that this was a thread about the new tax plan? You didn’t know that it doesn’t go into effect until 2018, so you covered your lack of knowledge by saying Democrats only understand government dependency. I am a life long Republican that can look at issues without insulting either side. Trump’s base is embarrassingly simple

They bought the building right next to us, in NJ, months ago. Still has old sign on it. We were able to park there during peak which was still a far as hell walk lol. Who knows what the plans are for that building. I’d assume that was apart of this tax reform.

About 85% of drivers will get a tax break.

We’ll see....

Not in Jersey. Property taxes write off capped at 10k. We pay almost 12k a year. Have to eat that 2 grand right off the bat this year.

That’s by design, so you elect republicans who will lower your taxes. Your tax happy state is a result of the liberal policies of your elected officials. No reason everyone else across the country should subsidize that with higher federal taxes.

UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced it has ordered 14 Boeing 747-8 cargo jets and four new Boeing 767 aircraft to provide additional capacity in response to accelerating demand for the company’s air services. All of the new aircraft will be added to the existing fleet and no existing aircraft are being replaced.

The aircraft will be delivered on an expedited schedule, building on the company’s 2016 order of 14 Boeing 747-8 freighters. All 32 of the jets will be delivered by the end of 2022, adding more than 9 million pounds of cargo capacity. UPS’s global airline network includes more than 500 owned and leased aircraft. UPS received three new 747-8 freighters in 2017.
UPS announced February 1, 2018 more than $12 billion in investments to expand the company’s Smart Logistics Network, significantly increase pension funding, and position the company to further enhance shareowner value.

“This $12 billion investment program is an outgrowth of the opportunity for tax savings created by the Tax and Jobs Act,” said David Abney, UPS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We will increase network investments and accelerate pension funding to strengthen the company for the long term, so that we maximize the benefit to our global customers, employees and shareowners.”

“Through our current and future actions, we will enhance UPS’s position as the leading logistics provider by expanding capacity and technology investments to help customers meet their needs for dependable, day- and time-definite service with enhanced visibility and flexibility,” Abney said.

The company plans to raise future capital spending above its previously committed six-to-seven percent of annual revenue. UPS will invest an additional $7 billion over three years for the construction and renovation of facilities, to acquire new aircraft and ground fleet vehicles, and to enhance the information technology platforms required to support the network, manage the business and power new customer solutions.

“We applaud President Trump and Congress for their bold action to improve the U.S. economy,” Abney continued. “Our investments will create new jobs, secure existing jobs and expand opportunities for our people. We are committed to remaining a preferred employer by continuing to provide industry-leading compensation and excellent career opportunities.”

UPS also recently made a $5 billion tax-qualified contribution to the company’s three UPS-sponsored U.S. pension plans. This represents about $13,000 per participant. The voluntary contribution raised the funding level to above 90-percent, securing retirement benefits on behalf of union-represented and union-free employees eligible for UPS-funded pensions.

“Tax reform is a tremendous catalyst,” said Abney. “We will continue to evaluate additional actions that benefit customers, employees and shareowners as we progress further in the year.”

So after being “taken by surprise “ by this years Christmas volume our CEO thinks the answer is to invest in more buildings, automation etc. How about more hire more drivers for next and take the helper cell phones and shove them up your...

Sorry to hear that, hopefully it will put more pressure on state and local governments to lower there tax rate. It should not be the federal governments job to lower state tax to even out the burden of high state taxes.

Uh, that might be a valid point if his state didn't pay twice as much in Federal taxes as they receive back from the government. One of the least dependent of states. The low tax states are the real burdens .

Dems don’t hate the rich. Even the wealthy dems you speak of say they themselves should pay their fair share.
Like Warren Buffet? Yeah he says that in public, but has been fighting his tax bill with the IRS behind the scenes. A total fraud he is.

if the hubs didn’t roll volume because they’re over capacity, the drivers would be able to handle most of the volume

we are over hiring this year FYI, though i doubt many will stay till the end of the year

The biggest contributors to the Democrat Party are the super rich like Warren Buffet, Jeff Bezos, Hollywood, and multinational corporations. Funny how the Dems claim they hate the rich and corporations yet corporations are their biggest contributors. It's all smoke and mirrors.
Both parties are corrupt.... too much business and politics mixing...

So, are they rolling volume because there are too many drivers and package cars sitting there waiting to be loaded? Just curious how things work.

Never bought my own handtruck
they’re rolling volume because they can’t process the work in the max sort span

then the next day the drivers get clobbered and it just snowballs from there
We didn’t roll much around here last peak. Coulda used about 40 more drivers and package cars for our building. A lot of 14 hr days. A lot of stop counts over 500. I think it’s a combination. If you have more resources, it’s easier to catch up, we are trending the wrong way.
