I had a mouse In my basement, grabbed him with a pair of pliers!....didnt have a problem killing him! Besides my gun would have been too loud!

Exactly. And when the effort required is greater than the desire to inflict that violence...when the desire to kill is require as little effort as pulling a trigger...then killing is much simpler. When destroying nations is a video game on the nightly news, killing is easier. When drones take even the pilot out of harms way, well not much to think about by then.
