What actually happens to damaged shipments? Is something illegitimate going on?

Both missed and damaged are to never be used as directed. Always wondered why the damaged key is even in there since that's a long standing never use option. They say falsifying records is a primary way of getting fired but it's what we're explicitly told to do.
I do what my training states, not what my dip:censored2: stupidvisor says. Following my training is "working as directed"

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.
So you take that out,DR it so you can go back two days later and pick it back up? That's smart. SMH.
Exactly. I didn’t feel like typing it but that’s why you throw it off. Why do I want a call tag for that bag of sht next week? That’s why we retired and these idiots today, quit. And they make fun of boomers. We worked smarter not harder.

I couldn't believe I was reading that, who does that? WTF?
Nevah, not taking it. Call the center manager and let him tell me explicitly, I have to take it. Wouldn’t be the first time I berated so called supervisors.

Now if you have a damaged box you side swipe when sheeting and use the not found button and bring it back to the damaged desk.

That's an interesting method. Not sure if that could backfire as a no-scan. They've always told us to sheet refused for a damage which I always thought was stupid. So the customer goes and tracks their package only to see that they "refused" and package when they didn't. Great service.

You are repeatedly told that EVERY SINGLE package on your truck needs to be scanned.

I don’t make exceptions for managements bonus money.

Been told every shady thing from management. "Don't sheet it missed, future it". Or the old NS# when it suits you. It's all about appeasing those sitting in nicer offices than your center manager.

Every single member of management is scum. They are all liars. MANAGEMENT IS THE ENEMY!

Here's a West Coast local news story that seems to raise suspicions. Comments also bring up fishy experiences. Of course it's a tiny percentage in the context of our massive volume but is it possible that inside scamming is taking place in some areas? I'm in the Northeast and I've never seen anything like this.

Why would damages be sold to third parties as shown in report? Wouldn't anything actually be thrown away or returned to shipper if still intact. Report shows items not actually damaged listed for sale but marked damaged by UPS. This is just a really bad look for what's supposed to be the carrier with arguably the best reputation.

Ignore the fact that reporter mixes up USPS and UPS.

None of the shipments in the news story had any additional insurance purchased for them in spite of them being rare or one-of-a kind items. It's always a good idea to have a duplicate ID/address label in the box in case the original address label gets ripped off or destroyed. UPS will take pictures on many damaged items which are listed on an internal site. If the original shipper is not found or no one claims the package after 9 months, it's sold at an auction and could very likely show up on eBay or a similar site. Once UPS pays for an item that is lost or damaged, they own whatever is left over so they are going to try to make a few bucks to recoup their expenses. FedEx, UPS and the airlines do the same thing with lost/unclaimed items.

Thanks to RFID PALs and the "Flying Saucer" bolted to the ceiling of the truck they know that the package is on your truck. I know drivers who have been instructed to look for the package. Why put your job at risk for a package?

Just do the right thing for the customer.

I like the flying saucer description

There's no way we'd accept a casket in our system. How could that have happened? I would say this is a very good Photoshop it's so unbelievable.
Judging from the short step at the back door, that's a 700. There isn't 6 feet of space between the bulkhead and wheel well. It's still a great photo.
