It's a basic human decency issue for me.

Just saw on news today over 100,000 mcdonalds workers wearing $15 minimum wage t shirts were on strike today. Can you imagine what those workers would want if they worked here??!!?? Lol

Yeah, looking down on fellow workers that are willing to risk the bull paycheck they scrape together every week is a real gasser. You sure are a sharp guy for pointing that one out to us.

I started typing this with multiple snide comments then thought better of it. I have some things for some of you to think about, and a "hypothetical" that i want some of you to put yourselves into that position. Sometimes people make mistakes when their young, and it can be hard to dig yourself out.

1. UPSers were saying that the top rung were getting huge increases to their wages and we were not getting enough.
2. Hostess employees were taking cuts while higher ups were getting raises.

Isn't these just what the fast food workers are saying?

Here is the "hypothetical".

17 year old "woman" meets 24 year old man.
She drops out of high school.
They move in together.
They have 2 kids.
He leaves her and disappears off the face of the earth while she is pregnant with the second kid
She was the 2nd income and was providing it with fast food - 40-50 hrs per week
She was a good worker and had worked herself into the bottom level of management
She was grossing about $16000 per year
She gets on state healthcare and WIC (this would have been before Obamacare)
The DHS will provide no monetary help as she hasn't went after the father for child support.
She has no money to go after the father in court and is unable to locate him on her own.
She is taking care of 2 kids, and all the regular bills on what is left after taxes of $16000 which is what she is earning as management
Every waking moment is either working, or taking care of a newborn and a 3 year old

Now answer the following questions.

How would you like her to improve herself? How would she find the time/money to improve herself?

There are a million stories in the naked city and you providing one here changes nothing. Every 5 mins someone dies in a car accident, killed by violent crime leaving families distraught. You can't change the world, take care of yourself and your family. Live your life and stop worrying about others whom you can't control, their problems are not yours.

The Swiss are ready to break the minimum wage bank. Good thing we all know where not #1 anymore and are just screwing are way to the bottom.

So, how about tying the minimum wage to inflation?

Inflation moving forward fine. But why have a minimum wage under the costs of basic housing, heating, eating and transportation if working a 40 hour work week? What is the purpose in that income? A full time job that can't pay the basics is a job that sort of doesn't suit its purpose.

Years ago PT and FT wages were very similar. Top PT sort rate is $.54 less then top driver pay in my building.

I do agree that PTers deserve $15/hr----just not when they are hired. $10/hr is a fair starting wage for PTers.

After busting my back for 5.5 years PT, I'll be the first to support a higher wage for them. $15 to START is excessive though.

UPS has already agreed to $10/hr to start in the new contract, well surpassing the 7.25 minimum wage. Right up there with Obama's own proposal of $10.10
