My morals have have no bearing or rightful place in public discourse but for some reason you think your's do and are the only ones that matter. Not to mention the fact that you keep side stepping the most pressing issue that being the ugly consequences of uncompensated care. Therefore I am going to tell you about just one of countless examples of what happens as a s result of uncompensated care.
Too late to be helped by the passage of the ACA my hometown community hospital crushed under the weight of 4 million dollars in you got it uncompensated care was left with two choices. Closure or allow itself to be absorbed by a regional hospital chain . It chose the latter but it came at a heavy price. Large layoffs to the towns largest employer . And it didn't stop there.....The closure of the radiation onocology unit which resulted in my mother who was dying of brain cancer having to travel out of town for treatment . And for your information oh no it didn't stop there....The next to go? ....The neonatal unit...That's right the baby ward...Now if you want to baby you've got yourself a 35 mile trip up the mountain day or night all kinds of weather and hope you get there safe and in time....And if complications set in that might have been avoided if out unit had not closed well it's a 140 mile air medivac ride to a critical/acute care hospital which in most cases involves flying a baby born to parents who have no money and no insurance.........Now about every weekend in my locale there's a fund raiser to help parents with a sick kid in one form or another who have no money and no insurance raising a few hundred dollars when they need tens of thousands . This is the real world reality of uncompensated medical care. So before you pro lifers set out to overturn Roe vs. Wade while hollering for steep cuts in Medicaid dollars you had better get prepared for a crisis in state budgets as well as reduced medical services including neonatal care because there will only be so much of it to go around and only so much money to go around.
