Not in over 20 years. Planes are too crowded. I used to fly standby a lot on Southwest. Now, by the time I’m getting ready to fly somewhere I don’t want to take the chance of getting bumped. I can also fly free on Allegiant and haven’t yet.
If you ever fly overseas consider late night flights. Almost always have seats available. I'm going to fly direct Orlando to L.A. on American then on to Bangkok via Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific in a few years. Assuming the Chinese don't go crazy. Should get it done for less than $500.
