Amazon Water and AOC Oil Don't Mix

There was recently a huge uproar in a town near here. It’s 3 town that feed into one school. One town like 5000 other two under 1000. One of the smaller towns made a deal with a developer to put up a 300 apartment complex in a tif district. The developer has done similar stuff in my town but the school negotiated a certain percentage of property taxes to go to them.

Because the town the complex was being built in was not the town the school was in there were no such negotiations and the school was essentially getting nothing.
And that benefits the kids how?

That’s why there was a huge uproar. They have just built a new high school, junior high, and grade school that were at capacity in 3 years. This complex was going to add a ton of students while adding almost no money.

It was a pretty sketchy deal as it was. 2 or 3 of the board memebers were subcontractors for the developer. The “public” meeting had a last second change of time and venue.

But that’s a fundamental problem with US capitalism and a prime fuel for AOC. The demonization of taxation is killing fundamental services.

Nolte: Ocasio-Cortez's Socialism Cost New Yorkers 25,000 Amazon Jobs Good article. Is the status quo ideal? No

But you can’t throw away what could have been up to a trillion dollars because you’re against 3 billion in tax breaks.
From the article:
Sure, the federal government could try to outlaw state and local politicians from offering these special incentives, but who wants that?
The people who spoke out against the deal want that, that was the point.

And this:
So we just have to learn to live with crony capitalism
Uh, no we don't, and this is a great example of how local citizens can stop it.

The author just said, it's bad, but deal with it, socialism blah blah blah.

Pretty much typical Breitbart garbage.

That's an example of willful ignorance. just saying! SMH
Actually giving one of the largest, richest corporations in the world $billions in incentives is willful ignorance. If they want to build in the financial capital of the US, let them foot the entire bill. No need for a corporate welfare handout for Amazon. Smh.....

I agree with that but then there is no way in hell that a company would open in NYC with their taxes and rules.
That's why UPS Corporate HQ is in Atlanta rather than Greenwich, CT.
That $150,000 salary in NYC/Greenwich would be equivalent to maybe $60,000 in Atlanta.
Cuomo , NY Governor, has done a good job of setting up deals like Amazon had to get companies to locate in NY State. If he did not, NY would be in much worse shape financially, than they are now.

Lots of Amazon/AOC real talk in this video. Tim and I are both center-left moderates who will probably have to give a lot of thought to how we'll be voting next year.
