It's a points game I think. Probably to 21.
So if you get one really close then you'd like to throw one short to block anyone from knocking it out of the way.
And, you can knock your opponents balls away from the pallino (the small, target ball).

I'm assuming say you have the three balls closest you get 3 points?

Fight the power.
One point is given for each bocce ball that is closer to the pallino than the opposing team's bocce balls. The pallino distance marker can be used to determine which balls are closer. The game continues until 12 points have been scored or to pre-determined points set by the players before the game starts.
