Problem with a hedgerow of those is one of them gets a disease and boom all gone. Happened to junior college here that planted them as a hitters backdropI just planted three Leland Cypress in my backyard. My neighbor has a whole hedgerow of them. His grew 15 feet at least in five years. No problems yet.
Yeah they are fair shade trees.They planted a lot of silver maples around here. Quick growing but crappy shade trees.

Yep. When I did landscaping everyone else planted them. We planted a lot of oaks and ash trees.These were here when I bought the house. A lot of developments were planted with them.

Sweet gum.Osage orange?
Sweet gum is used a lot in areas reclaimed from strip mining. They can tolerate really acidic soil. Awful small for a shade tree though.Sweet gum.
