I just planted three Leland Cypress in my backyard. My neighbor has a whole hedgerow of them. His grew 15 feet at least in five years. No problems yet.

Problem with a hedgerow of those is one of them gets a disease and boom all gone. Happened to junior college here that planted them as a hitters backdrop

They planted a lot of silver maples around here. Quick growing but crappy shade trees.

Yeah they are fair shade trees.



Our gumball trees give the best shade out at the farm but those damn gumballs!!!!

These were here when I bought the house. A lot of developments were planted with them.

Yep. When I did landscaping everyone else planted them. We planted a lot of oaks and ash trees.


Problem was lots of subdivisions say you must have 2 trees planted in the front yard. Hell 1 oak tree will take up the entire front yard if most .25 acre lots

I never heard that name and had to look it up. Lol. I’ve seen them everywhere but never knew what they are called.

Sweet gum is used a lot in areas reclaimed from strip mining. They can tolerate really acidic soil. Awful small for a shade tree though.

Sweet gum is used a lot in areas reclaimed from strip mining. They can tolerate really acidic soil. Awful small for a shade tree though.

Up to 150 ft tall in the wild.


Ours are probably 80 ft tall with 50-60 ft spread
