Agreed if you need to dig many holes. If its just a few a post hole digger and some sweat is good enough.

I dig up rocks. When you pile enough rocks you have a nice hole. Use extra concrete on the posts when you hit the big rocks.

Here its mostly just hard ass clay once you go down a foot or two.

In my old house, I had to replace the old fence. The posts were all good but completely off center. They must have been drinking when putting them up. I just cut some 4x4's, drilled out a few inches, and screwed them to the posts. Nobody would see the other side anyway.

For a barbed wire anchor fence post about half of the post should be in the ground.
