Keeping up with the Jones’ is definitely not good for kids.

But kids only really get the Santa thing for what 5-6 years?

And I figure it’s better to teach your kids not everyone gets the same stuff early. I’d rather my 5 year old understand just because her friend got Barbie dream house doesn’t automatically mean she gets one. Then all of sudden be trying to teach a 13,14,15 year the harsh realities of life.

I have to rein my wife in sometimes because she was very similar. Not a great childhood and her parents pretty much spent all free time and money on themselves.

Truly, I understand what you’re saying because I felt the same with my oldest, but she taught me a lesson about that when she was about 6 years old that made me realize I wasn’t doing her any favors and caused me to back off some.
