I was going to hit the river today but they’re calling for storms. So I’ll probably go next weekend. See what happens.Just texted my uncle to see if he wants to slay some crappie in a few weeks

smallmouth spot is up a little. Looking good. We get some rain this week and those rivers should be good to go.
This particular river runs south to north and south of here got slammed with rain last night so I’d bet it’s even up higher today. If it’s muddy it’s a no go. Usually crystal clear.Creeks are way over their banks here.
Rained about half an inch here this morning. Everything was already getting flooded from all the snow melting. This particular river runs south to north and south of here got slammed with rain last night so I’d bet it’s even up higher today. If it’s muddy it’s a no go. Usually crystal clear.
There was still ice floating down the Mississippi FridayRained about half an inch here this morning. Everything was already getting flooded from all the snow melting.
The Mississippi is hard as a rock at my place. Won't even start looking for open water for another month. There was still ice floating down the Mississippi Friday
It was froze here. Not solid but it cleared up. Was strange seeing it coming downstream Friday thi. Been fairly warmThe Mississippi is hard as a rock at my place. Won't even start looking for open water for another month.
I love the day I look out and see the river running again. A couple years ago I just happened to be looking at the river the moment it opened up--- that was WAY cool. There is a bridge south of us where ice piles up and once that breaks free the rest of the river around here goes fast.It was froze here. Not solid but it cleared up. The closest lock and dam to me is way up north in Winfield. It rips pretty good down this way. I had to double take when I went across the river and seen the ice. Stay away from those ice flows--they will run you over in a heartbeat. They come by my house about the size of half a football field. The closest lock and dam to me is way up north in Winfield. I spend as little time on the Mississippi as possible. I hate it.Stay away from those ice flows--they will run you over in a heartbeat. They come by my house about the size of half a football field.
The Mississippi up here is different. I actually prefer river fishing to lake fishing. The DNR releases fish consumption guides for all the lakes and the Mississippi around here every year telling how safe the fish is to eat. The river fish are always safer because the river cleans itself of contaminates like mercury where as in the lakes all that stuff just settles on the bottom. All the fish around here are safe to eat but the river fish are "safer". I also like the idea of you never know what you will hook in the river whereas with lakes you are always fishing walleye or panfish for the most part. There has been everything from a 51 inch muskie, bass , walleye, northerns, to blue channel cat caught by me. I used to fish the river a lot but not so much anymore.I spend as little time on the Mississippi as possible. I hate it.

All I can think about is the smell that must emanate from that mouth.
