My wife found this in our house today.
It's a Hellgrammite, the larvae stage of the Dobsonfly. It can bite you but is not poisonous.
Larval development can take from one to three years.
This one was about three inches long.

We live on a creek but it is about 70 ft vertically down and about 200 feet walking.
