call off policy

I am currently layed-off, on-call, and only part-time. I'm supposed to get a warning letter because they said I had 6 call off in this quarter...I work full-time at another job and they have been requiring a ton of over-time. I know I wasn't able to make it in one time because I had to do overtime. Another time I had a doctor's note but they told me that the doctors note didn't matter that its still a call off! I was scheduled to work that Tuesday, but wasn't on schedule to work that Wednesday or Thursday, but Friday I was and I did go in. So even though I wasn't on schedule for Wednesday and Thursday, They still put those as call-offs because the drs note! I don't know what the other two were for? So I guess the only reason I'm on call is because another guy is on call to drive, so I have to go in when he has to drive. Most of the time I look at the schedule and I see the days I'm scheduled to work and when I'm not. A lot of the times they call last minute and say I'm on the schedule to work even though I wasn't! Another employee works at the same other job as I do and yet he doesn't get in trouble when he has to do overtime because they said that's his primary income...Well that's my primary income as well. They are always calling off and I have to go in last minute and I know I've went in more than 3 times for each of them...Is this right?

How did you apply for and successfully land the job you are expected to work 2-3 days a week? UPS expects five days a week from what I understand.

I got hired part-time 5 days a week because the guy got hurt and they didn't know if he was going to return. He ended up coming back which layed me off...

If you are laid off, should you be collecting unemployment? Instead of being at UPS's mercy? Is that possible?

I'm only part-time package handler so it wouldn't be worth it. That's why I'm working another full time job. and I'm on-call because the other guy on call to drive...

But you are expected to be available to work 5 days a week regardless of your other job, correct?
There's four that work from 5pm-10pm max. Three of us have full-time jobs else where. I'm the only one layed off and they are always calling off for over-time or training...

I was working 5 days a week when I started. That lasted 6 months and the other guy came back which layed me off. I was getting unemployment but it wasn't much since I was only part time so I had to find another job. I've been there 6 years and for a first few yrs I was layed off the rarely called me. Now they are calling me in and I work 3-5 days a week. But there's rare times I don't work at all in a week... I work all this week because the other guy is driving. And I'll work next week because he is on vacation. Other than that they always call me in because they are calling off..

the nearest one is an hour away...I don't mind being layed off. I work full-time at another job and have 2 kids with another on the way. The problem is why are they going after me when I'm only suppose to be working when someone is on vacation, or if the other guy has to drive. I'm always having to go in last minute when they decide to call off or take off for whatever other reasons. If I don't go in the put me as a call off but yet they have more call offs but nothing is happening to them...My wife is high risk pregnancy and we have to travel almost 2 hours to see specialist and I have to take her because she doesn't know how to drive in the city. I told them that and all they said is family is family but this is your job you have to be here...

there seems to be a communication problem with your supe. ask him or her for 5 minutes of their time and tell them you are trying to do the right thing but don't know what is expected of you.

clearing the air usually works wonders. it sounds like you will soon be working 5 days a week again.

I have always put the job first unless it was an emergency. an emergency is a emergency. a good boss will understand until it becomes too frequent.

The problem is she allows the other to take off because she knows she can call me in! I talked to the big boss and he just yelled at me I honestly don't know what to do and I will be layed off until a driver either retires or quits so that's at least another 3-5 years... That time I had the sick note I had to leave my other job and go to er it really was bad and I was in a lot of pain. I'm trying to work around the overtime situation when I have to, I go in at 2am rather than stay until 6pm but last week they forced me to do 16 hours! There was no way out of it..
