Our foriegn policy has changed. Only we went from being the street walkers for others includuing canada to taking care of our own family first. the pressure on canada is for fair tariffs and to meet their obligations as part of nato. Canadas military is woefully inadequate and a far cry from an effective fighting force.
the waters around greenland have become a threat because they are being used by the chinese and russians as a strategic location to closely monitor and possibly threaten the US. the monroe doctrine which we've have enforced for centuries protected the americas from foriegn threats. As technology expands capabilities trump is proactively looking at other locations like Greenland where our enemies could position themselves and threaten our continent. Greenland has been neglected by the Danes and would be an easy conversion. All we have to do is throw a little (billion a year or less) money and infrastructure their way and they would be willing partners.

Let us know which is cheaper. Working with them and providing security for the entire continent, OR, let them shrivel on the vine and provide a potentially strategic invasion point for our enemies?
