Are you advocating the theft and destruction of packages tendered to a common carrier placed in the wrong drop box?

I would guess that a courier will empty the drop box of it's contents and place those by mistake in the correct drop box / flag down the competitor / cross OpCo or take back to station. This is what a decent person would do, not throw the package away.
If it's not your box it's not your problem. Leave them on the road, toss em in the trash, who cares? If a customer can't read it's their problem.

It's funny because at drop boxes they want us to scan them to show possession. Yet no one I know does it nor do we get reprimanded if we don't.

There just seems to be something very flawed with a system where a package can sit gathering dust for days waiting for "its rightful owner" to come along and take it away. What century are we in?
And there in lies the problem FedEx has created for itself.

There is rarely an issue with people at my sta swiping packages for another courier. A quick dads message to let them know you have it and to send the pup over and you're done.

Now FedEx has to deal with contractors who view us as screwing them over for swiping packages because an irate customer is bitching us out because the package has sat there for days.

The contractor isn't to blame; they're the ones who are supposed to be servicing the customer but because of the way over complicated system FedEx has in place, stuff happens.

How many times a week do you get a call for a pup only to find it's a ground stop? I get those multiple times a week. It sucks for the customer because I've been told to tell them to call the 1800 number again and deal with that bull:censored2:, leaving the package behind.

This is the system FedEx wants. I'm more than happy to oblige.

Why would you ever take someone else's freight?

Me? I wouldn't, but I haven't been a courier in like 25 years, thank God. I'd hate to have to deal these days with trying to explain to customers why I (a FedEx guy) can't take their FedEx package because it would be stealing from someone else.

As my Mother used to say: "You can't argue with an idiot". Maybe someday you will realize the error of your ways.

Remember: The Customers are the ONLY reason we have a job.

This is where you guys are getting confused, a box for another carrier makes that person the other carrier's customer not yours. I don't consider anything for express as any different than a ups or dhl box. If they have problems with those packages it's not my problem.

It's not a long explanation.
"That's express. I'm Ground."
"Can you take it?"
"No, call the 800# and tell them you have an express pickup. Bye."

Share your phone number and I'll send you all my Ground pups, that way you can maximize your profit margin AND service those customers.

All my daily pickups as well as many call-ins have my card with my number. Quite a few express and ups drivers do as well. A lot of my long term drivers have swapped numbers with their counterparts and give each other heads up when there's a pickup or heavier than usual volume at a mutual stop.

Yeah, well to the average Joe and Joanne it's all FedEx. And now the company has made it even better by converting all the opcos to orange. Brilliant.
As I said, glad I don't have to fuss with it myself, but sure sympathize with those who do. I'd be pulling my hair out.

The customer doesn't understand the difference because FedEx has done a piss poor job, differentiating each other. They don't care because they aren't the ones dealing with customers getting pissed off

I guess business at Ground must be so bad the couriers have to steal money from customers homes. Bummer

Camera or not. You don't take what isn't yours.
Well that just goes without saying, but yes, I suppose it should be re-iterated. Just saying, how dumb can people be? We've already seen it time and time again - from tossing monitors over fences to peeing in driveways. Come on, people, technology is everywhere and it's watching your every move. If you're not going to be motivated by your conscience , then at least be driven by your fear of being caught.

Now THAT's funny!
See how agreeable we can be when you get off your high horse!
It's not a high horse to tell people to leave Ground to Ground. That should be clear.

We used to get bitchy calls from the local Express if we took their stuff.
