Gas Prices

The Tesla Model S is gorgeous, and it'd no doubt be my top choice in that price range. But I do see a problem for them in the lower price ranges.
The Model 3 which is expected in 2017 is gonna have a base price of $35,000. Two years ago I got a brand spanking new Nissan for less than $15k and it gets close to 40 mpg. I guess I just don't really understand the entry-level luxury car market.

If Tesla was allowed to sell cars directly to consumers they could definitely be a big player, unfortunately politicians on both sides of the aisle seem to be bowing to the auto industry lobbyists who want to protect the age old, over regulated franchisee model.
I think Tesla needs to focus on the performance of electric vehicles. Set the fuel savings aside for a moment and catch America with stupid numbers. Tesla 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds.
0 to 120 in 8.0 seconds.

Nissan doesn't build that vehicle but it's 8n the wheelhouse of electric power.

Tesla has a video of an S totally embarrassing a hemi Challenger at the dragstrip. It isn't even close.

The Challenger driver was an idiot and couldn't drive. The Tesla would have a jump at the start because of all its torque but the Challenger was spinning his wheels and missing shifts. I would like to see it again with a more fairly run race. I would expect the Tesla to have an early lead then it is only a question of whether there is enough time for the Challenger to catch up.

Top Gear ( BBC America ) did a run between the gas & electric versions of the same car .
The electric one was great on a straight road , but lost to the gas car on the curves .

Gas went up here another 20 cents today. Its up from $1.84 two weeks ago to $2.29 today. Apparently some station owner heard about the big oil workers strike going on so that was just enough to wave the green flag for a price increase and every other station joined him. They are just chomping at the bit to get it back up over $3.00.

Is that fair? The gasoline vehicle was built to be gasoline from the ground up and the electric retrofitted? Although it might give some insights, not really apples to apples.

Not sure if i am correct.....but doesnt all of the lower gas prices have something to to with Saudi Arabia spanking Russia over exporting oil?

I think the recent uptick in prices have been attributed to the sudden massive winter storms and a stronger than expected US economy.

Obama has little to no control over private and state lands. He does, however, have control over federal lands where oil production has been faltering. The U.S. Energy Information Administration notes that “crude oil production from federal lands decreased 11% between FY 2003 and FY 2013.”

Obama took office in 2009. From 2009 to 2013, crude oil production fell from 1.8 million barrels per day to 1.7 million barrels per day, according to the Congressional Research Service. All the while, private and state lands saw oil production go up from 3.5 million barrels per day to 5.6 million barrels per day thanks to hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling.

Obama’s remarks on low gas prices are also ironic, given that just two years ago the president said the U.S. could not drill its way to lower gas prices.

ya BB, it has to be the winter storms and not the FACT that the USA oil producers have CAPPED OFF 50% of the active wells in the last three months. I am sure it has nothing to do with that.

The USA producers are doing everything possible to get prices to rise, from not negotiating with workers and causing a strike, to Freak train derailments of oil containers, to the mysterious explosion here in so cal.

There is still a 4 million barrel a day surplus floating around this country that needs to be burned off so prices can once again reach the 90 dollar a barrel mark and 4.00 a gallon.

Please dont make excuses for the oil companies.

TOS.
