Yes, there is, but I don't like to shop and my son, who was still living with me at the time, didn't like to wake up before noon at the earliest, so it made sense to go in for a few hours and run off a few air stops.

I agree totally, it started out to be a choice which was respectful to us . Having that option to work was the seniority kicking in and it felt good . Its a long shot to try and slow down corporate 's control with unrealistic goals without common sense and real knowledge of the routes where the streets are all in the wrong order. What bothers me most about Black Friday is the loss of choice. For many years I choose to work it. The extra money was nice and it provided an excuse not to go out of town for the holiday. In recent years, I have enjoyed the holiday as a much needed rest. Now the choice is gone and we will be forced to take part in the atonement for upper managements failures.
Most, if not all, supplements list Black Friday as a holiday, but go on to say "an employee required to work on any of the above named holidays...Do other supplements not list Black friday as a holiday...is that how we got lucky?
Lol when I lived 10 minutes away from work. Start time was 9 I roused around 8:30.I have no idea what time he gets up. His shift starts at 7:30 am and he has a 5-10 minute commute so I assume he is up by 6:30 am at the latest.

Life is grand as a UPSer.And I'll make 115k+ this year and don't have to take work home or pay student loans. Life is grand as a Teamster.
Ahhh...I see...mine goes on to say that no employee can be "required" to work the above named holidays. Most, if not all, supplements list Black Friday as a holiday, but go on to say "an employee required to work on any of the above named holidays...
There are just a couple of exceptions where the supplement or rider says no employee can be required to work. Your one of them. Enjoy Black Friday off.Ahhh...I see...mine goes on to say that no employee can be "required" to work the above named holidays.
I may work it...for time and a half..There are just a couple of exceptions where the supplement or rider says no employee can be required to work. Your one of them. Enjoy Black Friday off.
I don't blame you if you want to work. It is good money. It is nice though, to have the choice. Most of us no longer have a choice. In the past, they could force from the bottom up. We only delivered air packages though, and they did not require a full staff. Most had the day off who wanted it unless you were toward the bottom of the seniority list. Not anymore. At least it is double time for Black Friday here in the Central. Cha-ching!I may work it...for time and a half..
Are they opening Thanksgiving night this year like they did in the past? She could hit the stores before she goes into work...You can't work Black Friday. You would miss the stores opening at 5 am!
