Last year's peak debacle was total vindication . If not then how do you explain the boxes piled to the ceiling, piled outside with tarps over them and piled in trailers that sat for days before they were pulled off?
I agree. They were ill prepared and struggled. And UPS did three years ago. Is UPS still functioning?
We didn’t have those problems in our building. We were prepared and lucky with the weather.
So what happens with the ill prepared contractors? I keep saying it. If I can’t make it work I will sell it to someone who can or X will take it from me and give it to someone who can.
And why think that X is completely incapable of managing something like labor costs? If they see contractors failing and bringing the company down, are they able to mitigate that? Of course they are. We are on 1 year contracts. Why do you think that is? More control.
Thursday we have a meeting dealing with Smartpost integration and increase to the settlement pay for the next year. Why? Because they have to make it work. They are building the Ground business first with Smartpost. Then comes the “low priority Express”. Of course it takes more resources to do what they are doing. But if you read the road map, building through the low priority first, where does it stop?
Ground can’t handle all of the Express volume tomorrow. Maybe not 3 years from now. But you’ve been underestimating them for a long, long time.
