you lost me a bit. in a worker coop the workers would work and decide what to do with the profits like reinvesting in the company or paying themselves more or whatever. When people do work for me, I pay $15-20 an hour.
When they bring their own tools and infrastructure, I pay them $30.
Deduction: The $10/hr differential pays for his/her tools, consumables (gas, oil), and a reasonable opportunity cost. Opportunity cost = Investors can make profits of a reasonable amount.
So, in your case, workers show up and go to work and get paid $10 and the other $10 pays for infrastructure (building, sorting belts, package car, etc.), upkeep of the infrastructure, consumables, and an opportunity cost.
I agree $10 an hour is not reasonable ... I even pay illegal Mexicans $20 - $30 / hour.
Actually, I don't know but they are short, olive skin and speak Spanish.
in terms of min wage i think it should strike a balance between how many jobs it kills by increasing it and obviously how high they can make it for hte workers. and if its still too low then the government (or something else) should make up the difference because no one should be in poverty.
i wonder how military housing works. does the government pay for it all or just part or none of the cost for soldiers? if they do, its ironic they can help soldiers who kill people around the world more than they can help a single mom or a college student or a poor worker.
