When people do work for me, I pay $15-20 an hour.
When they bring their own tools and infrastructure, I pay them $30.
Deduction: The $10/hr differential pays for his/her tools, consumables (gas, oil), and a reasonable opportunity cost. Opportunity cost = Investors can make profits of a reasonable amount.

So, in your case, workers show up and go to work and get paid $10 and the other $10 pays for infrastructure (building, sorting belts, package car, etc.), upkeep of the infrastructure, consumables, and an opportunity cost.

I agree $10 an hour is not reasonable ... I even pay illegal Mexicans $20 - $30 / hour.
Actually, I don't know but they are short, olive skin and speak Spanish.
you lost me a bit. in a worker coop the workers would work and decide what to do with the profits like reinvesting in the company or paying themselves more or whatever.

in terms of min wage i think it should strike a balance between how many jobs it kills by increasing it and obviously how high they can make it for hte workers. and if its still too low then the government (or something else) should make up the difference because no one should be in poverty.

i wonder how military housing works. does the government pay for it all or just part or none of the cost for soldiers? if they do, its ironic they can help soldiers who kill people around the world more than they can help a single mom or a college student or a poor worker.

this is a battle coming to a city near you. the economic system is even worse than it was in the past, the political system is totally controlled (and run in the case of trump) by rich people who dont care about average peoples best interests. from democracy now:

Greek Pensioners Blockade Finance Minister & Call for General Strike on May 17

In Greece, pensioners and workers blockaded the entrance of the Finance Ministry Thursday to call for a general strike on May 17 to protest a new round of austerity measures imposed by international creditors and accepted by the Greek government. This is one of the protesters, a 65-year-old pensioner.

Ioakim Yatzisis: "The amount of harm that has been done to the Greek people by all these policies is unbelievable. A battle must be waged. What else can we do? We cannot do anything else."

Too bad socialism is what bankrupted Greece.

cmon from fox? really? thats a bad source.

you dont see me giving you msnbc links LOL

anyways, i agree with some of what he said like the greeks should have a debt restructing.

its dishonest to blame the greek economy on just one thing; although i generally like to place alot of blame on capitalism since its largely responsible for alot of problems.
Dishonest to blame one thing yet you blame capitalism?

thats what i said re-read it. if social services and government run business are a major reason why greece is have problems then you can place alot of blame on it, but surely not all the blame

likewise i can place alot of blame on capitalism (theres probably no bigger problem) for americas problems but there are other significant problems besides capitalism.

im not sure if social services are a major cause of greeks problems, i dont remember hearing that. government and goldman covered up the finances, austerity which has been imposed on greece has made their problems worse and shrunk the economy, the germans stole alot of the greeks gold in world war II, greeks forgave the germans debt post world war II but that has not be done by the germans, etc.

i was listening to richard wolff's economic update and theres 1.2 million americans working in retail sector down from 1.8 million in 2000. this is a substantial drop and this is in addition to the fact that a significant number of malls are closing.

on the other hand i am not in favor of retail jobs because i think they are unfufilling for most workers not to mention low paying.
He's cherry picking one segment which is being disrupted by technological change. That's like observing in 1905 that there are fewer employees in the candlemaking business than there were in 1890.

There are so many variables that contribute to the Greek issue that to draw a straight line to every other country and society is extremely facile.

I think it's more the opposite. The biggest factor is the Greek inability to allow its own currency to respond to the market place. Inflation might have hit the drachma and allowed them to pay their debts in devalued currency, but being shackled to the Euro via an artificial agreement (government control) closed off this path.

i dont think thats entirely it, but i agree tech change has something to do with it.

if you look at OECD annual hours worked they have been in decline for some time for most developed countries
