Doesn't sound like a paycheck issue to me.

If it was a payroll mistake (as he says he didn't refer anyone)...when they catch it....the amount will be deducted from a future check.

If it was a mistake...chances are good they will catch it.

When we got our retro checks a few years ago ...apparently corporate seriously screwed up some PT checks. Some stupid kids were overpaid by hundreds of dollars....they spent the money. And a few weeks later....had to sign agreements to take say $30 a week out of future checks till UPS was reimbursed.
