No, they can get trained in other things that pay well like being a plumber or an electrician. They can work and go to college at night. Plenty of ways to make it work. It's a matter of how bad do they want it.

Why not? I chose it voluntarily. Went to college with no debt. I saw a cheaper way to get my college and took it.
My mom and dad went to technical school and got skills that led to careers and raised 2 boys in a middle class life. My brother went to technical school and makes 6 figures a year. It’s not either or
Some ppl have no hands on skills
You paid for that college with your life
A free choice would be like if your housing and food and medical was covered and you wanted to go to work
Then join the military. Or learn a skill. Become a trucker. There are all kinds of things that pay decent. Or get a day job and go to college at night. Or online.
