I wanted to be a Seal. Plus, the Navy still has the coolest uniforms.
Voted Most Outstanding Recruit out of a Brigade of over 800. Met Neil Armstrong who the visiting officer the week of graduation. Was asked to stay and train new recruits while qualifying for the Seals. Took the tests, after swimming forever, did pull ups, push ups, and sit ups, barely making each session with the time allowed. After the rest, you had to run a 7 minute mile or better. I'm 7 minutes.
All the physical work, football hip injury flared up.Flew me to Bethesda Naval Hospital. Honorable Discharge after 11 months active. Not medical. I had the injury before I enlisted.
