He can be a jackass, no doubt, and I can't imagine why anyone from Norway would want to come here other than as a tourist. But we do need to address the issue of merit. We need people with something to contribute right away to come here, not those with no education or skills who become dependent immediately. The only problem with that is we would be encouraging a brain drain from countries who can ill afford to lose them. No easy solutions.

I see a lot of flack on this forum about the degradation of our nation, vis a vis 'millennials', how they're lazy, etc, addicted to their 'screens', on and on.

Yet, the DACA folks work twice as hard because they want it - we should kick them out?

We should kick out the Salvadorans, who have been here for a decade and a half, are paying taxes, own homes, are hard-working people, and have had children while in this country?

These are the immigrants we should want to have here.

Trump disparages Africans because he's a maroon - he thinks 'Africa' is a country.

So we should kick out Nigerians? The ones who work seven times as hard to get a B.S. and two Master's degrees?

So we should kick out the Haitians? The ones that...

Nevermind.

I could go on and on and on.

This country was built by immigrants, and Trump is just a xenophobic friend.

Actually by percentage the DACA kids are less educated and less employed than the general population. Some shining examples are used to portray all of them a certain way for sympathy. But I digress. As a bleeding heart Republican I want the DACA kids to stay. Not their fault they're here. But green cards only, and contingent on Democrats allowing the wall to be built. Heard a Black man from Chicago on the radio today saying he'd like to get a job but there are illegals everywhere there doing all the work for less. Our poor, especially minorities, are impacted the most by illegal labor. Only 1% of illegals pick crops, the rest are doing jobs Americans can do. A man from Atlanta said there are no Blacks seen working at construction sites, it's all illegal labor. Arrest and prosecute the business owners. And don't complain if costs go up, American workers have higher overhead than illegals.

Take a look at Norway’s immigration policies and taxes. Those big government programs are not “free” and they don’t intend to pay for refugees.

You need to look up some figures. Norway is much wealthier per capita than the U.S.. It's a beautiful country where most speak Norwegian, have the same culture. Why would someone give that up to start over in the U.S.?

Not a Trump fan, wasn't an Obama fan. I never get too worked up over who's president. It's out of my hands. And though they can make things better or worse, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which any president can completely obliterate the country. I'm just going to keep making the best decisions I can and carry on. I just wish some people didn't get so nasty about expressing their dislike of whoever is president (speaking generally, not about anyone in particular).
