Local 804 Drivers Walked Out

So...you think the result of the elections at TDU would be any different if there were mail in ballots for a volunteer organization that you can leave at any time? Seems like a waste of postage to me. The difference between TDU and the IBT is....you can stop being a member of TDU if you disagree with the leadership or how the organization is being run without having to find another job...

This is why I've always said that TDU's sole focus is making money on the fears of others.

Become a member, and then you have a voice on how their leaders are elected.
Until then, stay in your Hoffa camp. You have no say, and no pull with TDU.
So your saying it's Hoffa side or TDU side? TDU's significance is to destroy and funnel cash. If Paff held a mail ballot system a lot of people would join.........Just before an election. Hahaha. And that is why he will never hold the same standard as the Teamsters. He gets to bark and smear from the throne. The TDU old guard. Or is it the only guard?

How exactly are you supporting the members, when you are calling for the E-BOARD to resign in the middle of this mess?
You aren't. You are just trying to hurt TDU, by having them take a "black eye" at the expense of 250 drivers.
Admit it, you just know 2 songs.
#1 I love Hoffa
#2 TDU sucks
Very quiet on the TDU web these days about 804. 1 article? And listen, TDU has had a black eye since it's inception.

To the members who get upset about how the thread changes to TDU needs to understand a few things! Local 804 has never been under TDU reign until Tim came in power! Members are trying to help you understand how TDU ideas has caused major problems here! TDU ideas may work in other parts of the country but 804 has always set the standard for supplemental language in contracts. The rank and file members realize how hard it is to do the job bye the book or how ups wants it done! With that! Members will do things that are not correct and could cause discipline up to discharge. Now! That renegade style that began has caused the company to follow discipline too the letter! Which has caused there own supporters to lose there jobs!!! Suspensions where rare 5-10 years ago! A week suspension was news! Today! Guys have lost 16 months pay! Then brought back to work! Couldn't a week suspension been enough! Is TDU cause that important? Then you have maspeth! Guy is dead wrong! And you know maspeth is your strongest tie and this guy is the link! You put 250 guys in harms way??? Stupid! Now you want to go on TDU interpretation of the contract? Not the people that constructed the language? Oh boy!

What is your obsession with Paff?? He gets re-elected for a reason. He is highly intelligent and has been able to affect and piss the old guard since the 70s!! So members reward him. And he deserves it. But he is not alone. If paff was gone, there are others who would continue his good work. You make it all about one man. I guess that is why you and your ilk are so gung ho for Hoffa Jr. You all believe in the "great man" theory of organization. Reality check: great and positive change comes through grass roots mobilization and action. That is why TDU and Ken P are so effective and why they are so feared by the Old Guard. Long after weak "leaders" like Hoffa and Hall fade away, TDU will still be around larger than ever, pushing to make this union stronger, more democratic and more representative of the rank and file!!

What about Ron Carey?

Ron did affiliate himself with TDU! Primarily due to the number of members in the Midwest and south! Solely for international reasons of getting votes! Ron knew how badly it effects and costliness of wildcat strikes on local levels! Basically he used the group! Took the few good ones out and fled the group!!

What you dont get is that this local has always been a reform local, excluding the dreary 10 years of the old guard Redmond crew (1998-2009).
From 1968 until 1998, Ron Carey was the poster boy for reform. Though he never joined TDU, he was a supporter of the group and they were a big supporter of him.

You speak of "TDU ideas": rank and file empowerment and involvement...reducing officer salaries and perks...mobilizing the membership to demand stronger contracts...ending business unionism and go along to get along policies...holding management's feet to the fire. These are ideas TDU stands for. They are also ideas Ron Carey stood for.
Old guard forces also called Ron Carey a "renegade" in the 1970s. That renegade went on to become our first IBT President.

"Suspensions were rarer 5-10 years ago"?? What world do you live in?? When our current E/B took over they inherited a huge back log of hundreds of discharges and suspensions from Redmond's crew.

Now you are saying that the initial driver that was fired was "dead wrong". That is a typical blame the victim answer by a political hack who only wants to embarass or destroy the E/B because his boys lost the last 2 local elections. Get over it!!

Ron ran in 1991 with a slate full of TDU candidates. He attended TDU conventions from 1991 through 1997. He never put them down or disparaged them. They were of the same mindset. As for the wildcats, he too called few in his day. Stop the revisionist history!! This isnt fox "news"!!

You are such a big bag of wind. TDU members ran against Ron Carey in his own Local. i am sure some of them are reading this and i wish they would come on here and let people like you know. They had balls, they didn't have a prayer but they stood up against what they didn't like in Local 804.

804brown, I have one single question; were all those members working pending arbitration?

Ok, but do you think that it was anything like 250 discharges or suspensions at once?
250 at once, never. But then again no one since Ron Carey has done such a bold move against management.
Again, I think Liam has Art 18 sec 2 on his side of this which makes these WRONGFUL discharges!!
