Every public school in my county gives breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack that lots of kids take home.... completely free to every student regardless of parent income.

Free choice... so in your mind, they should have a buffet at school and kids should get to choose what they eat that day?

Like I said, no one is force feeding these kids, parents are free to send their kids to school with a bagged lunch. I understand your fundamental disagreement with lifetime dependence on welfare and food stamps, but these are CHILDREN.

Breakfast at school, in a lot of cases, is the first time these kids have eaten since lunch at school the day before. It's not their fault, and this isn't a third world country.... it's hard to teach algebra to starving kids.

If you want to have a real discussion, we could talk about returning control of the funding for these meals to the state and local level.... then we might have a lot to agree on.

Bringing in your own bagged lunch is highly restrictive .
They { the gov't } have established rules on what can & can not be brought onto school property due to other kids health and/or religious requirements .
The notion that some kid's free breakfast is their only meal since yesterdays lunch is nonsense .
Their parent(s) get food stamps , have access to food banks , so if their is no food in the home then what the hack are the parent(s) using this free money for ?

Some aren't spending it on their kids at all, that's my point. Rant against food stamps spent on lobster and steak all you want, but this money is going directly into the mouths of children. It's far more efficient than food stamps.
