Any picket line. The some things in life you do not do, such as crossing a picket line
Even if I'm working or not.Any picket line.
You don’t care about much.I give less than a crap about anything to do with the IBT. Im not taking sides I hate them and UPS equally.
Perhaps, but how would it help you to work through a strike? Not really joking we’re heading towards a depression
And be forever labeled a scab. That doesn’t bother you?I’ve never been a part of a strike but if you’re not supposed to work that would make me pretty likely to do so
Irregardless…it ain’t gonna happen it’s a lot of talk
Not technically, it’s not a word. You from the north east? Coast? And yes I know irregardless isn’t technically a word
I’ve worked here part time for over 6 years now. I’m probably gonna be leaving before all this comes to a head although my curiosity is the only thing making me wanna stick aroundAnd be forever labeled a scab. That doesn’t bother you?
In jersey it is a word. Same with couldn’t care less vs could care less means the exact same thingNot technically, it’s not a word. You from the north east? Coast?
Curiosity killed the cat, man. Just stay at home or find something else. I doubt the strike will last too long. What with all the smart phone footage and bad publicity it will give UPS.I’ve worked here part time for over 6 years now. Ahhh yes. Much like gripsion. Definitely should be a word. Everyone would know what it means! In jersey it is a word. Same with couldn’t care less vs could care less means the exact same thing

Oh, I'm with you on that. I was 10 years in at that point. Had a wife and a two year old at home, and had just bought a house a couple years earlier. Nervous as hell. But I sure as sh#t wasn't crossing that picket line. No amount of nervous was going to get me to cross. I'd go broke first. I was actively looking for other work had the strike gone on any longer. After witnessing firsthand what happens to those that cross, I'd highly recommend that if anyone is thinking about it...DON'T. Your work life will be miserable. Even more miserable than UPS work life already is, if you can imagine that...lol.If you are a driver there's no excuse you not having a little bit of money put away in the bank.
You don't think I was nervous as hell in 1997?
If your smart you already bought some gold since the dollar is on the brink of virtual collapseOh, I'm with you on that. I was 10 years in at that point. The writing was on the wall for a while prior to that strike, I could see it was more than likely going to happen. So I did start squirreling away as much money as I could spare. In addition, in March, I scheduled 3 weeks of vacation starting the first week of Aug '97. My birthday is July 30, so got off Wednesday the 30th and day after, and took a floater for the Friday. Then vacation kicked in. I was away on vacation when the strike hit August 4th. Actually cut my trip short to come home to picket. Vacation checks were cut 2 weeks in advance of your vacation back then, so the money was already in the bank when the strike hit. It basically eliminated any hit I would have taken to my bank account as the strike was over before I was to be back to work, luckily. I always took that first week in August as vacation going forward, but never again did I feel the need to do the three week thing again at contract time. I retired in 2018, so I'm a little out of the loop as to the feeling of strike or no strike this time. Prepare accordingly people!

As usual, we've always got to have the "the world is ending" guy chime in. A six year, part time, nihilist, that is telling us he will cross the line and screw himself and his coworkers just because you aren't supposed to and for sh#ts and giggles, is handing out financial advice. I'll continue to do what got me this far and allowed me to retire comfortably at 49 in one of the most expensive states to live in.If your smart you already bought some gold since the dollar is on the brink of virtual collapse
Thanks. Just passed my 5 year anniversary of my last day worked, April 18th. Life is good post UPS! Retire young and as soon as you possibly can!Congratulations for making it out of there
