I'd worry more about the return than going if La Guardia is your starting point. Just tell them you lost it on your vacation, they'll probably feel bad for you and just say you're good.

Maybe a friend can check your mail and NDA it to you?

The embarrassing part was one of my local sorters lives across the street and was outside having a smoke and saw me.

I don't even have a SS card. I got one when I was 16 and it got lost sometime through the years. I could write to get another one but never needed to. I think SSA will replace your card 3 or 4 times for free.
