Once again, the biscuit saves the day!

I met this guy for the first time ever today as I walked up onto the porch of a new house on my route. He came running out thru a dog door in the garage at about the same time as his owner opened the front door. First encounters with a pit bull can often go VERY badly, but instead of yelling or getting scared I just said "good dog" and gave him a biscuit. He decided at that point that we were going to be best buddies forever, so I took a moment to chat with his owner while petting him. The entire encounter was pleasant, with positive vibes from all involved, so for the rest of my career (or this dogs life) there will never be a problem between the dog and whoever delivers a UPS package here.

I always had biscuits too but there were a few dogs on my route that I wouldn't waste one on --- it was more enjoyable sending them sailing.

In 27 years of driving I have only had to kick a dog once. It was a German Shepherd that took a full blast of pepper spray to the face and kept coming at me. So I ditched the spray and started using biscuits instead.

I always keep bones in the truck. One of the old timers recommended that I did when I first started driving. I'm glad I took his advice.
