I find that hard to believe UPS suspends HOS for any driver " officially ". FedEx does only for drivers that are non DOT and have no DOT card.

All our drivers have a DOT card but not all our drivers fall under the requirement of the DOT.

While UPS blanketly requires "all" drivers to follow the HOS per company rules, they suspend that policy all the time.

We have many air drivers that work the preload, air drive and then are asked to come back in the same night, with only 8 or so hours off, to run a drop box.

Perfectly legal with the DOT as long as their vehicle is under 10,001 lbs.

Translation:
It's okay to kill 1 or 2 people when you fell asleep driving a vehicle 10,001 lbs or less but it's not okay to kill 3+ people when you fell asleep driving a vehicle 10,001 lbs or more.

Makes sense.
