To protect and serve.
Yes, they "serve" up dozens of punches and "protect" themselves by changing the report to reflect a combative suspect.
8 officers, and one suspect on the ground being held down while One officer throws punches.
Nah, we dont need to look into police practices, they are all "the good guys"...

Ya, maybe the cop should have let him to continue walking against the traffic light .
Getting run over by a car or truck because he's too stupid to understand civilized rules and from watching the video, he was looking at the cop behind him, not what was in front of him .
Would have been proper punishment .

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bucking a 40-year precedent, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Wednesday there will be no grand jury used in the Jamar Clark case, or any future police-involved shootings.
Freeman said in a press conference his decision was based in the idea “that grand juries may no longer serve the present evolving standards of justice, accountability and transparency.”
Instead of 23 members of the public deciding on what charges -- if any -- officers Mark Ringgenberg and Dustin Schwarze will face for the incident, that responsibility falls on Freeman, who plans to make that decision before the end of March.

This is what he had in his hand, a "spray nozzle". Certainly creates a gray area where the officers can reasonably be seen to be justified in the shooting.
That being said, it definitely could have been handled differently, but we would have to change the way we train officers. I don't think they did anything wrong, they performed their job the way they were trained to do, by eliminating a perceived threat.
I see this as an opportunity to have a public conversation about alternatives to lethal force when dealing with people who have mental health problems. But placing blame on the officers won't accomplish that goal.
