Instead of calling it socialist check, you should call it an influence check. Politicians promise you other people’s money if you vote for them or they promise to not take your money. I tend to go for the ones promising not to steal right out the gate.
People don't vote to keep those in power who'll guarantee a social security check. It's a done deal already. They will vote out of power anyone who will try to end it. And it is social insurance, not redistribution, the hallmark of socialism.
You're really bending yourself into a pretzel trying to defend socialism when it benefits you directly.
It's not socialism but y'all are just too uninformed to know the difference.

I was referring to other proposed socialist programs, socialist security is socialism. You aren’t getting money you paid into a system like a 401k, you are collecting the money I’m currently paying into it.

At this point I’m considering being Amish so I can opt out of paying the boomers their socialist security.
Just as I and everyone else paid into it. You don't see the benefit because of your age. If the government said we are going to take from those who produce and give to those who don't, with across the board equality being the goal, that would be socialism. If you spread the risk of being destitute in your senior years across the entire working population that's social insurance. The biggest critics of it are business owners who want to keep the matching funds for themselves. Same people who push employees to work with few raises and few if any benefits. A business owner doesn't have to guarantee a great living, but if you help him have a better life the least he can do is assist your retirement.

Those aren't my words, but rather very authoritative writings by experts. And the beauty of a free country is we can live where we want. You do know that people living here on green cards and pay SS taxes receive a check too if they put in enough time? And they very often go back to their home country with that benefit. And really, the amount taken out shouldn't prevent you from investing the rest of your money.
