Those who are in favor of confederate symbols believe that white people rightfully should be dominating and in power. And they see black people getting those symbols removed as black political or economic power, which threatens them. Historically every progress or perceived progress by black Americans is met with a white backlash against that progress. It happens every time.
Another good post.
And I agree with this from ad hoc observations.
I often felt that the racist white people I grew up with were threatened by blacks for the very reason you state.
I also think many racists are insecure and don't have a high esteem. I also think this is a characteristic of many over-achievers ... regardless of race.

You read this somewhere on the net or paste and copy?
Or did you express this as a distillation of your life experiences and research?

Todays history books have been so watered down to make everything so politically correct it stinks.
In public schools without a doubt as part of the Intelligentsia's attempts at social engineering.
It's pretty :censored2:ing ridiculous in some instances but understandable if one understands their goals.

It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree. What matters is the beliefs behind the agreement or disagreement.
I think you are relatively young because I have noticed your tendency to have idealistic/romantic underlying assumptions.

In this case, you appear to have a basic belief that there are absolute truths ... almost Platonic.
It is always important whether your audience agrees or disagrees with you.

Your post begs a question. One we should all ask ourselves. Why do we believe something that we haven't bothered to research?

I mean have you really read enough history books to make some kind of quality or accuracy comparison of those books, have you read studies that try to measure the historical accuracy of history books?

And if you haven't done those things, you should ask yourself why do you believe what you believe about history books.

So my point still stands. There are history books that exist. So pretending that taking down statues erases history is 100% phony.

Its irrelevant if people agree or disagree without an articulation of why.
I am not young but my age is irrelevant.
I am not idealistic. I think this is brutally racist nation that has a long and prolific history of grinding down and taking from black Americans and will continue to do so.

We have an economic system that doesn't work for millions of Americans and that system will continue to fail those Americans.

I think our medical system is inadequate. I think we don't offer poor children equal opportunities by a long shot.
So no idealism.

The American identity and American institutions are threatened by black progress.

Individual Americans can and do have all kinds of complicated beliefs about black Americans as a group, but those beliefs are irrelevant without societal power.

So that insecurity as you understand it comes from a recognition that this nation benefits from black people being exploited and black progress threatens that. Thus the inevitable backlash.

This understanding comes from reading and trying to understand why things are they way they are. There is no way someone's life experiences can convey these kinds of things.

Well your statement is garbage, but we both know you actually have no clue what is being taught in schools because you're an out of touch old man, so had to give you props for the fictions you spin.
It would be plausible to many people, including reporters/talking heads on the MSM and FOX networks.

Why is everyone so mad about ISIS destroying all those statues in the Middle East?
We got history books.

Again the history argument in the context of American society and confederate symbols is 100% bs because there are history books about these men a lot of history books about the civil war and because these statues aren't being destroyed but removed.

Comparing Americans to ISIL for wanting to remove confederate symbols is another phony tactic.

For those in favor of the confederate symbols this is all about power plain and simple. Instead of discussing that honestly, we get into phony discussions about erasing history or calling Americans like ISIL because they don't like confederate symbols.
