Navy veteran Dan Gilmore said the NFL’s stance against kneeling doesn’t mix with his version of patriotism.

“I wouldn’t personally kneel, but I support their right to do it,” the 44-year-old Gilmore said. “[Veterans], we’re not protecting an item or a song, but the values and the rights to freedom of speech.”

Gilmore, a contract web developer for the federal government, isn’t turning his TV off on Sundays, nor is he staying away from M&T Bank Stadium. He has tickets for the opener against the Buffalo Bills.

you can always find a veteran that says that and many others that disagree.

you're not suggesting this guy speaks for all veterans are you?

Beginning of the end for our free speech rights. 2nd amendment cannot be far behind.

Your free speech rights are protected from government action. Not from a private employer, including the NFL. Your behavior on the job does have consequences. I personally don’t care what the players do during the anthem.

Not when the government determines what free speech is.

I mean, I hate Trump and everything. But it seems to me like the NFL just decided what would be better for business and went with the favorable option.
Favorable to who? Something that should be negotiated with the player's union in line with their collective bargaining agreement.

absolutely . they're losing significant business. we can argue about the impact but in the end taking politics out of football will bring fans back

The League’s bottom line. The details regarding how they actually got to their decision is indeed debatable. But not really so much regarding whether this is a First Amendment threat.
