Oil is all about supply and demand. Russia and OPEC nations routinely play games on the supply side. They can literally decide how the world economy goes. The US oil industry can to a certain extent except that shale is a more expensive process. As soon as the US ramps up production to drop prices, other oil producing nations can send them back up by cutting production. And when the oil companies are owned by the state, well there’s all sorts of palace intrigue that come into play.

He legislated through executive orders putting a lot of unneeded redundant regulations on business. Said "you didn't build that business." Trump greatly improved conditions by removing most of that regulatory burden. And did that while fighting ridiculous accusations throughout his presidency (can't have a successful capitalist in the White House).

and when you cut off pipelines and stop oil exploration in the US oil prices skyrocket.
so now instead of paying americans to pump oil we're going to pay russians and arabs to do so. just to pretend we're concerned about our environment.
in the meantime we make ourselves more dependent on foreign oil and weaken our position globally.
We're then going to pay to transport it over large oceans and increase the risk of an oil spill in the oceans just to pretend we care about the environment.
