The demonization of Putin will not solve what is really the core issue with this aggression, he made a calculated military move because he knows who he is dealing with in the White House. He saw a weakness and took full advantage of it, he has his own intelligence and is fully aware how divide we are. He knows the true story of the Biden’s personal dealings in Russia and the Ukraine, I believe his own observations about our current leadership is based on his upbringing and doctrine of the communist party. The man is 74 years old and is looking across the table and seeing Biden at the end of his game, and Harris who is currently out of her league and a woman to boot.
Trump had us own issues, but he is mentally and physically capable on doing his job add that to his “loose cannon” reputation and his willingness to put America first by becoming the largest oil producer in the world had weight with Putin. I would add to that the current Ukrainian president had his primary opposition leader arrested and a couple of newspapers critical of him shut down. Ukraine is not eligible currently to join NATO or the EU because of corruption and economic qualifiers. Maybe they would improve to meet the standards but as of now it's one corrupt country going after another with little for us to gain beyond making sure bordering NATO countries are secure.
