I figured the chance to win an almost new UPS sock would have them beating down the door to sign up. After all there isn't a month goes buy that someone doesn't start a new "where can I get UPS socks" thread.

Sounds like you need to false advertise it as a typo saying "new" and "pair"...

The last give away I did here (years ago when I hit 5,000 posts and gave away a 1921 silver dollar that I had won from a regular poster doing the same thing previously ) I did as live as possible. About 10 minutes before the contest closes I will make an announcement and start cutting up the names to be placed in a hat. I will then (at 8:00 p.m. cst ) let my wife draw a name as she is asking me what the hell I'm up to now. I will tell her "don't worry about it" and immediately announce the winner here. That's the best I can do.
